What To Expect At Your Consultation

The consultation is an opportunity to establish a preliminary connection.  This time is designed to have a dialog about what is going on in your life that is inspiring you to seek out a therapeutic growth journey!  It can be both difficult and liberating to tease out the details of the circumstances that have led you to engage in your own mental wellness.  The paths that lead us to this stage of our lives varies across all people.  Each journey is unique even if it shares commonalities with the journeys of others.  The initial consultation includes going over this insightful information as well as what to expect  moving forward if we feel that we are a good working match.

General Questions

Do you offer sliding scale rates?

I want people to be able to achieve their goals no matter what their income may be.  With this in mind I do offer a sliding scale based on individual client need.  I am happy to discuss this option with anyone in need.  I also accept occasional pro bono clients.  Access should be available to all who wish to do the work.

What kind of support is available outside of sessions?

I am very proud of the fact that I place a high value on communication.  There is no additional fee for communication outside of sessions.  I feel that much of the work happens outside of the sessions.  I try to respond to emails and texts in a timely manner. I also encourage people working in groups or in classes to establish connections within the group.  Having a strong support system outside of the sessions is valuable.  I also work with individuals to help identify people already in their lives that can be strong allies on their journey.

Do you do remote or online sessions?

It seems that this day and age remote sessions are in demand more than ever.  I have really enjoyed the Zoom application for meetings.  I have several clients with issues surrounding mobility and child care, so this service has become invaluable.  I am happy to use this method of communication for both services and just general check ins.

Get to Know Me

Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to  make a difference in people’s lives.  I was not sure exactly what that meant for me at the time but it did impact the course of my education.  I studied Anthropology and Psychology at The University of Florida where I earned my Bachelor of Arts.  As my interest in human kind grew so did my desire for education.  I continued to study Anthropology and Psychology and received my Master of Arts in Human Sciences from Texas Tech University.  At this point I took my education one step further and also earned a second Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Texas State University.  I have over 15 years of experience working in the mental health field with survivors of trauma.   Working with people who have experienced trauma has really enabled me to be passionate about the recovery that can come after the traumatic event or events.  I have had the privilege of working through my own trauma history in order to embrace a more fulfilling and meaningful life.  I know all to well the level of "stuckness" we can feel after surviving these aspects of our lives.   For me this is a life calling. Mental wellness is not something that happened for me overnight.  It has been a life long journey with both challenges and successes all along the path.  I have both life experience as well as education to guide me in my calling. I see counseling and coaching as a partnership between people with the goal of self exploration, healing, and achievement.
